Portland T-Bone Crashes Lawyer

Some of the most serious auto accidents involve so-called T-bone crashes. This is a term used to describe a broadside collision, i.e., where one vehicle slams directly into the side of a second vehicle. The “T-bone” refers to the shape of the two cars colliding at a 90-degree angle.

T-bone crashes are almost always avoidable. Put another way, when such broadside collisions occur, it is generally because one of the drivers failed to obey the traffic laws and acted in a reckless manner. The innocent victims of such negligence have the right to demand compensation. Rosenbaum Law Group, PC, is a team of experienced Portland T-bone crash lawyers who represent victims seeking damages for their medical bills, lost income, and other losses arising from an auto accident. We can review your T-bone crash and advise you on who can be held responsible under the law.

How Do T-Bone Crashes Occur?

T-bone accidents usually happen at intersections. The most common scenario is that two vehicles enter the intersection at a right angle to one another. But only one of those vehicles was in that intersection lawfully.

For example, one driver may speed through a red light and strike a second vehicle that had a green light. Or the intersection was governed by stop signs and one driver failed to give the right of way to the vehicle that entered the intersection first. In some cases, however, the driver without the right of way may have entered the intersection for some other reason, such as slipping on ice or a brake failure.

Regardless of the specific reasons, a T-bone crash is typically far more devastating to the occupants of the side-impacted vehicle. Those individuals lack any substantial protection from the collision, as most vehicles are designed to absorb an impact from the front. Indeed, we commonly see a host of serious and life-threatening injuries in T-bone crash cases, which include but are not limited to:

  • bone fractures;
  • back injuries such as herniated discs;
  • spinal cord damage and paralysis;
  • mild-to-severe traumatic brain injuries; and
  • soft tissue damage.

The at-fault driver in a T-bone crash can be required to pay damages to the victims of the accident. This includes economic damages as compensation for the victims’ out-of-pocket losses, including their medical bills and lost income. It also includes non-economic damages as compensation for difficult-to-quantify losses such as pain and suffering, interference with day-to-day life, and post-traumatic stress. And in cases where the victim has died from their injuries, their estate can file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek further damages on behalf of the surviving family members.
